These Terms of Service (the "Terms") set out the conditions for using ScrimLink (the "Service"), provided by ScrimLink (the "Operator"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms.
Article 1 (Scope)
These Terms apply to every relationship between the Operator and users concerning the Service.
Guidance and notices the Operator shows in the Service form part of these Terms.
Article 2 (Definitions)
"User" means anyone with a Service account.
"Coach" means a user registered as someone who leads or supervises a school esports club, such as a faculty advisor. "Student" means a user whose account was created by a coach's invitation.
"Match" means a practice match whose terms were agreed and confirmed in the Service. "Coordination thread" means the proposal cards and preset phrases used to agree on a match.
Article 3 (The Service)
The Service helps school esports clubs find opponents for practice matches (scrims), agree on the time, server and format, and record results. It offers Compete locally (schools in the same country) and Connect globally (schools abroad). Exchange matches never affect the competitive rating.
Matches are played inside each game, and match-day voice chat happens on external services such as Discord. The Operator does not provide the games or those external services.
The Service is provided free of charge.
Article 4 (Eligibility and registration)
The Service is for high-school-age students and older, and school staff. People in middle school or younger may not use it.
Only coaches can sign up on their own, using a school email address whose domain matches a school registered by the Operator. Student accounts are created when a coach adds a student's school email to the team roster.
Before inviting students, coaches must explain these Terms and the Privacy Policy to them and obtain any consent required by school policy (including a parent's or guardian's consent for minors).
The Operator may refuse a registration that contains false information or that the Operator judges to be ineligible.
Article 5 (Account security)
Users are responsible for their own account and password and must not let anyone else use them.
If you suspect unauthorized use of your account, contact support@scrimlink.com right away.
Article 6 (Communication and contact details)
The Service has no open chat and no direct messages. Match terms are coordinated with proposal cards and preset phrases that only coaches can post. Students can read threads but cannot post.
Coordination threads are recorded, and the Operator may review them for safety.
Once a match is confirmed, the opponent team sees the coaches' Discord IDs and the in-game ID of the team's lobby contact (Riot ID for VALORANT, BattleTag for Overwatch 2, Epic ID for Rocket League). They are not shown before confirmation or to anyone outside the match. The Service does not collect or show Discord server invite links.
Article 7 (Game publishers' terms)
Users must follow the terms and guidelines of each game's publisher (such as the terms of Riot Games, Blizzard Entertainment and Epic Games). Schools and teams are responsible for game age ratings (CERO, ESRB, etc.).
The Service is not endorsed, sponsored or operated by Riot Games, Blizzard Entertainment, Epic Games (including Psyonix) or any other game publisher.
Article 8 (Content users register)
Rights in team names, team logos, school icons, descriptions and other content users register remain with the user or the rightful owner.
Users grant the Operator a free licence to display, copy and adapt (for example resize) that content as needed to provide and introduce the Service.
Users warrant that they hold the rights needed for what they register. Team logos and school icons are visible to everyone, including people who are not signed in, so do not use photos of students' faces.
Article 9 (Prohibited conduct)
Users must not:
(1) break the law or public order; (2) harass, discriminate against or threaten other users or schools; (3) impersonate others, register false information, or register with the email of a school they do not belong to; (4) register or display content unsuitable for minors; (5) use contact details learned through the Service for anything other than coordinating matches; (6) interfere with the Service, access it without authorization, or place excessive load on it; (7) use the Service for sales, solicitation or advertising; (8) provide benefits to or otherwise deal with organized crime groups; (9) do anything else the Operator reasonably judges inappropriate.
Article 10 (Suspension and removal)
If a user breaches these Terms, or where the Operator judges it necessary for safety, the Operator may hide posts, restrict features, or suspend or delete accounts without prior notice.
Article 11 (Closing an account)
To close your account, email support@scrimlink.com from your registered school address. A coach can also delete a student's account by removing them from the roster.
How information is handled after an account is closed is set out in the Privacy Policy.
Article 12 (Changes, interruption and termination)
The Operator may change or end the Service with prior notice to users. It may interrupt the Service temporarily without notice for maintenance, outages, natural disasters or other unavoidable reasons.
Article 13 (Disclaimer)
The Operator does not guarantee that matches will be arranged or played, network latency (especially in international exchange matches), other users' conduct, or the operation of games or external services such as Discord.
Disputes between users, or between users and third parties, are to be resolved between the parties.
The Operator is not liable for damage users suffer in connection with the Service unless caused by the Operator's intent or gross negligence. This does not limit any liability the Operator has under Japan's Consumer Contract Act or other laws.
Article 14 (Changes to these Terms)
The Operator may change these Terms in line with the Civil Code provisions on standard terms. Before a change takes effect, the Operator will show the new content and the effective date in the Service.
Article 15 (Notices)
The Operator contacts users through the Service, in-app notifications, or email to the registered school address. Users can contact the Operator at support@scrimlink.com.
Article 16 (No assignment)
Users may not assign or pledge their position or rights and obligations under these Terms to anyone without the Operator's written consent.
Article 17 (Severability)
If any part of these Terms is held invalid by law, the rest remains in effect.
Article 18 (Governing law and jurisdiction)
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. The district court with jurisdiction over the Operator's address has exclusive jurisdiction as the court of first instance for any dispute concerning the Service.
